Deadbeat dad going to jail for failing to pay child support

A Louisiana man is headed to jail for eight months for failing to pay $25,000 in child support in Rankin County.

Mark Bushnell, 49, of Alexandria, La., pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday for felony non-support of a child, according to Attorney General Jim Hood.

Bushnell was sentenced to five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with eight months imprisonmentm   and the remainder as post-release supervision.

Wanted felon found in Brandon

BRANDON, MS (WLBT)- Brandon Police have located a wanted felon they were searching for in a wooded area near Pinehurst Apartments.  Willie Collins was arrested just before noon. K-9 dogs assisted in the search for Collins. 

Police say Collins was seeing his parole officer, who notified him that he had a warrant for drug possession out of Hinds county, a violation of his parole.

Coral bells are perpetual favorites, and their colorful foliage can add interest and texture to any garden.

The first coral bells had green foliage, but these days, green foliage selections can be hard to find. New selections have purple, red, and white marbling and different colored venation. You will often see foliage colors of bright gold, orange and brown.

Skylar Laine thanks fans Saturday

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- Saturday evening's rains didn't dampen fans excitement of seeing Skylar Laine at two metro area events.

With umbrellas in hand, folks waited in line to meet the "American Idol" star at Flowood's Family Festival.

Laine signed autographs under a tent for each person who waited in line.

The Brandon native will leave Sunday to rehearse for the season finale of the show. Then she will go to Nashville to work on her career.

'Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites' coming soon to MCM

The Mississippi Children's Museum will soon welcome its first traveling exhibit -- "Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites".

The exhibit features famous characters and iconic scene taken right out of the pages of seven celebrated children's books: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Snowy Day", "Abuela", "Tuesday", and "Where’s Spot?".

Storyland's grand opening is Saturday, May 19. It will run through Aug. 26.
